Hazelnut Bloom

Flower type: Annual (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This average-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its hazel stem is very thick and splits into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the huge, brown leaves are fan-like with ripped edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Hundreds of tiny flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with petals that are brown on the edges and pink at the center. The flower head is shaped like a dish with 43 tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like marzipan, and it has a fair amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
The sap is indigo.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
