Twistwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 580 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in silky, brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is gray.

The tangled mess of branches are very long and thick and are covered with small amounts of crispy, huge, thin leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown at the bottom and violet with turquoise edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, dark orange blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like musk.

In late summer it forms small, dark grey, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
