This red moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In rainy mountain ranges.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is very frail.
When mature, emerald cylindrical capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release dozens of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

The sap is edible and overwhelmingly salty.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
