Groundpine

This modest-sized tree grows up to 45 meters (147.6 feet) tall and lives for over 3,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 3497 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in rough, gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is white.

The branches trail down towards the ground, with thousands of twigs covered with very large amounts of small, pale green and slate needles. The needles themselves are flimsy.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, bronze aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
