Golden Spined Caudiciform

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large caudiciform grows up to 90 feet (27.4 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is yellow-green, and is dotted with small gold spines. The thick, silver trunk can grow to as much as 90 feet (27.4 meters) in diameter. Its gray-green branches trail down towards the ground.

The wavy-edged, pleated leaves are lime and deep red. They are flimsy, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is very slow growing, taking 30 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are either blue or deep yellow, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with 47 tightly layered narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like something putrid.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the deep yellow flesh is rough, and the olive sap is thin.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
