Twisting Bluebell Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a flexible, wonky trunk covered in rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown-grey.
The branches are long and thin and are covered with very large amounts of giant, wispy leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are blue on the sides and sky blue at the center.
In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, blue blossoms with fan-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like wet dog.
In mid-summer it produces , needle-like fruit. The smooth turquoise skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet and savoury, and the very soft blue flesh is sour and very juicy. The gold seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
