Salty Peach Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 83 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in fine, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is yellow-brown.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of huge, thick leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in gold and azure varieties.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, white blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like lavender.

In late autumn it produces very large, oval fruit. The clammy indigo skin is thin and overwhelmingly salty, and the soft peach flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The caramel seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
