Mahogany Willow

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 27 meters (88.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 328 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, crooked trunk covered in hard, rough, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The large clumps of branches are long and thick and are covered with copious amounts of waxy, tiny, wispy leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of red that gradient shifts to lilac at the top.

In late summer it forms tiny, black, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
