Spiny Lime Caudex
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The perforated stem is green, and is covered in many rigid vibrant red spines. It has a straight, wide, silver trunk atop a flat block of wrinkled, exposed roots. The branches are narrow and moss green and are short and slender.
The serrated-edged, pleated leaves are solid lime with lilac edges. They are robust, and detach easily.
It is steady-growing, taking 13 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with vivid yellow petals and a lime central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of 10 petals in raised layers. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like cherry.
The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the orange flesh is slimy, and the ashy purple sap is thin and causes vomiting if consumed.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
All parts of the fruit tree are edible.
