Silverthorn
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large shrub grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for around 32 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has numerous branched, wavy stems covered in very thick, ridged, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.
The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of small, very narrow and elongated, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are magenta on the sides and lilac at the center, tough and covered in fine hairs.
It produces thousands of giant, grey flowers with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like an ocean breeze. In late winter it forms medium-sizedblack, shelled seeds.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
