Caramel

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is white with black speckles.

The thin clumps of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of giant, long, narrow leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in caramel and purple varieties.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, violet blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like roses.

In late autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The leathery white skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft silver flesh is spicy and savoury and powdery. The dark grey seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
