Thorned Sunflower

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 65 feet (19.8 meters) tall. The very thin stem is copper, and is covered in many rigid sky blue spines. It has a straight, slender, blood red trunk atop a very thick ball of silky, exposed roots. The branches are very thick and orange-yellow and are long and thin.

The ripped-edged, 9 pointed leaves are a shade of yellow-green that gradient shifts to vivid yellow at the top. They are rigid, but detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 2 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with azure petals that gradient shift to cream on the outer edge. The central disk is grey grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 8 petals in raised layers. It has a soft scent that smells like wet dog.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the blood red flesh is sticky, and the aquamarine sap is thin.

It commonly grows in large patches.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
