Emerald

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 123 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many long and flexible, slanted stems covered in very thick, knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy with thousands of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, needle-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are emerald with pastel purple tips, frail and fuzzy.

It produces thousands of tiny, vibrant red flowers with triangular shaped petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like citrus. In early winter it forms medium-sizedblack, spiky-shelled seeds.
