Indigo

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its beige stems grow in bunches of 4 and are thin and straight, and the huge, yellow leaves are 5 pointed with serrated edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

3 to 6 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with petals that are bronze on the underside and indigo on the top. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. They detach easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like bonfire smoke, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
