Blackbirch

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short stubs, with hundreds of twigs covered with sparse amounts of small, brown needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces small, caramel, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
