Hazel

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its gray-green stem is thin, and the large, gray leaves are dark grey on the underside and are very narrow and elongated with rounded edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Lots of small flowers grow in a bunch at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with solid hazel petals decorated with green dots and a aquamarine central disk. The flower head is largely flat with 17 widely spaced narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like cinnamon, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator and is ignored by most insect species.
