Goldenberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, wonky trunk covered in hard, silky, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is gray.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of large, long, narrow leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are gold and white.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In early autumn it produces tiny, spherical fruit. The hairy cream skin is stretchy and spicy and salty, and the soft washed-out green flesh is sweet and dry. The silver seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
