Burgundy Twistreed

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 220 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, twisting trunk covered in very thick, ridged, burgundy bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown.

The small bunches of branches are very long and thick and are covered with small bunches of waxy, large, slender, pointed leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are cream and magenta.

In early spring, it produces clusters of small, green blossoms with oval-shaped petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like burning wood.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, slate, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
