Sunset Orange
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)This large flower grows up to 3.4 feet (1.0 meters) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is very thick and splits into several branching stems at the top, and the miniature, washed-out green and yellow leaves are dark washed-out green and yellow on the underside and are very narrow and elongated with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
A single tiny flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with petals that are generally olive; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is made up of 11 petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.
It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like apple, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
