Blueberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 21 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in delicate, ridged, light brown bark, and inside, the light wood is pale yellow.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of miniature, 3 pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either vivid blue or white, with intense green streaks.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of tiny, indigo blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The clammy blue skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet and salty, and the slightly crunchy hazel flesh is sour and sticky. The black seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is often referred to as the most beautiful of all flowers.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
