Heartleaf Caudiciform
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is yellow-green, and is dotted with small olive spines. The straight, beige trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its yellow or bronze branches trail down to the ground and start growing at the top the stem.
The handfuls of irregular-edged, broad, flat leaves are dark grey and cream. They are flimsy, and take some effort to detach.
It is slow growing, taking 18 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are generally blood red; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of several raised, narrow petals. It has no scent.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the brown flesh is smooth, and the indigo sap is thin.
