Silverbell

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 14 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many long and flexible, angular stems covered in delicate, smooth, silver bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of giant, very thin, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are violet on the sides and cyan at the center, light and smooth.

In late summer it produces many giant, beige blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like pot-purri.

In mid-autumn small cuboid fruits ripen. The rubbery beige skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft violet flesh is spicy and syrupy. The brilliant red seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
