Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This large shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 101 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has many flexible, angular stems covered in hard, waxy, brown bark, and the wood inside is black.
The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of large, asymmetrical, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine at the bottom and olive with gentle yellow splotches at the top, rigid and rough.
It produces copious amounts of large, crimson flowers with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a mildly strong scent that smells like mango. In late winter it forms medium-sizedwhite seed pods.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
