This short caudiciform grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. The needle-like stem is slate or peach, and is covered in sharp spines. It has a twisting, wide, bold green trunk atop a wide clump of waxy, exposed roots. The branches are very thick and gray-green and are short, rigid and upright.

The jagged-edged, fan-like leaves are a shade of slate and subtle green that gradient shifts to gold at the top. They are resilient, and take some effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 26 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with azure petals that gradient shift to lilac on the outer edge. The central disk is caramel, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 curved petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like varnish.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the bold green flesh is waxy, and the white sap is thin.
