Waterberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, twisting trunk covered in smooth, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy-brown.

The sparse amount of branches are very long and thick and are covered with large amounts of huge, thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are found in bronze, magenta and green varieties.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of medium-sized, dark grey blossoms with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like fish.

In early autumn it produces very large, oblong fruit. The smooth orange skin is thick and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy peach flesh is sour and juicy. The gold seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It blooms only at night.
