Blue Spineflower

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its cream stem is thin and splits into many branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the small, brown leaves are thin with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 4 to 9 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with blue petals and a grey central disk. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of 7 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a soft scent that smells like misty mornings, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
