Bloodvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This giant shrub grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for around 59 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many slender, wonky stems covered in fine, wrinkled, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are short and slender with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of huge, very thin, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are yellow at the bottom and purple with lime streaks at the top, resistant and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces handfuls of giant, blood red blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like perfume.

In early winter slender, 5 pointed fruits ripen. The smooth slate skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet and salty, and the slightly crunchy olive flesh is bitter and sticky. The olive seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

It can grow in even the most barren lands.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
