Limeberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in ridged, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The numerous branches are short and slender and are covered with large amounts of huge, wide leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are yellow at the bottom and purple with lime streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, caramel blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In mid-summer it produces , hexagonal-shaped fruit. The soft aquamarine skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft olive flesh is salty and dry. The yellow seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
