Yellowfern

This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 554 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, light gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is light brown.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of leathery, giant, pleated leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are yellow with orange tips.

In late summer it forms tiny, intense orange, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
