Gray-Green Succulent

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized cactus grows up to 48 feet (14.6 meters) tall. The pleated stem is gray-green, and is covered in thick sheets of rigid grey spines. The round body is pink-red, and is dotted with small beige spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 17 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with green petals and a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 58 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a faint scent that smells like skunk spray.

The cactus's skin is thick, the blood red flesh is waxy, and the indigo sap is thin and can kill if consumed.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
