Lilacberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 20 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several very thick, slanted stems covered in delicate, waxy, silver bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, broad, flat, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either turquoise, or lilac with hazel lines, soft and flexible and waxy.

In late spring it produces several tiny, olive blossoms with 2 oblong shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like burning wood.

In early winter perforated fruits ripen. The leathery green skin is thick and salty, and the very soft lilac flesh is sour and syrupy. The silver seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for making strong rope
