Skunkberry Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in waxy, black bark, and inside, the light wood is yellow-brown.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, very narrow and elongated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are generally grey.

In early spring, it produces clusters of small, purple blossoms with perforated petals. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like skunk spray.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, oval fruit. The soft azure skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft white flesh is sour and savoury and dry. The dark brown seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
