Desert Lily

This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is very thick, and the huge, gray leaves are cylindrical with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow in bunches along the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are either washed-out orange or slate, with a yellow center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 22 curved petals. They detach easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like candle wax, and it has excessive amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
