Silverberry

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 59 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many sturdy, wonky stems covered in thin, waxy, silver and white bark, and the wood inside is dark brown.

The branches are very short and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, slender, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are light brown and green, rigid and clammy.

In late summer it produces thick bunches of small, orange flowers with sickle shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like marzipan.

The entire plant is edible and the grains areextremely bitter.
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
