Cyanberry

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wavy trunk covered in thin, smooth, dark green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of small, wide leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in black and vibrant red varieties.

In early spring, it produces a handful of small, cyan blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like warm cookies.

In late summer it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The hairy black skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is bitter and salty, and the crunchy cyan flesh is sweet and very juicy. The white seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
