Cyanberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, curved trunk covered in delicate, cracked, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of giant, thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either blue or cyan, with hazel dots.

In early spring, it produces many balls of medium-sized, muted purple blossoms with 4 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like pineapple.

In mid-summer it produces large, needle-like fruit. The hairy cyan skin is peel-able and spicy, and the crunchy amber flesh is savoury and powdery. The orange seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
