Knobblefruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This huge fruit tree grows up to 61 feet (18.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in hard, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.
The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of huge, long, tapering leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in muted purple and muted purple varieties.
In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, pink blossoms with circular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have an intense scent that smells like ashes.
In late autumn it produces small, broad, flat fruit. The fuzzy dark brown skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy amber flesh is bitter and sour and syrupy. The hazel seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
