Violetfruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 16 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The small handful of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, very thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are green and red.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of giant, white blossoms with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In late autumn it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The waxy intense yellow skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy violet flesh is sweet and sour and dry. The green seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
