Violet Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in very thick, silky, silver and white bark, and inside, the light wood is yellow.

The abundance of branches are long and thick and are covered with handfuls of tiny, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either sky blue or violet, with turquoise splotches.

In early spring, it produces bunches of medium-sized, yellow blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like blood.

In early autumn it produces small, needle-like fruit. The fuzzy hazel skin is stretchy and bitter and savoury, and the very soft purple flesh is slightly spicy and sticky. The caramel seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
