Indigo Bellflower

This massive shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 169 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several narrow, straight stems covered in ridged, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, fan-like, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid cream with indigo patches, tough and waxy.

In late spring it produces many bunches of small, blue flowers with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like bleach.
