Lilac

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its moss green stems grow in bunches of 6 and are thick with a curved tip, and the huge, green leaves are slender, pointed with irregular edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Each stem splits 6 to 9 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide, with petals that are blue in the center, pale red in the middle and lilac at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 11 widely spaced, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like onion, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
