Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, slanted trunk covered in delicate, rough, silver and white bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The abundance of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of miniature, long, tapering leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are lime at the bottom and bright yellow with blue edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, lime blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like alcohol.

In early summer it produces small, circular fruit. The waxy caramel skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is spicy and salty, and the slightly crunchy hazel flesh is bitter and savoury and very dry. The caramel seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is extremely resistant to fire damage.
