Pink

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in hard, ridged, black bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of large, spiral leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are pink and purple.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, azure blossoms with shield-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like new books.

In late summer it produces , triangular fruit. The rubbery red skin is thick and savoury, and the slightly crunchy hazel flesh is bitter and salty and sticky. The bronze seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
