Crimsonfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 20 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several branched, straight stems covered in delicate, waxy, dark green bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are very short and thin with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, thin, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are bright yellow and vivid red, resistant and fuzzy.

It produces large amounts of small, green flowers with stiff, pointed petals. They are hardy and have a faint scent that smells like alcohol. In early autumn it forms smallindigo aril (seeds with fleshy covers).


It makes excellent hedges.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
